5. The Law of Prosperity

We must believe that it is God’s will for us to live in abundance whether be it spiritually, emotionally, physically or financially.

2 Corinthians 8:9; “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ; that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.”

This is the basis for a life of abundance. Christ became poor in every aspect so that we may enjoy the riches of God. Christ did not die for one aspect of our lives but in all parts of our lives. Financial abundance is just one of the areas.

Prosperity therefore is not measured by the state of our bank accounts. It is a state of being. What do I mean by the ‘state of being’? Let me illustrate by using examples. For someone who is sick and maybe suffering from cancer, the chance to be healthy again is wealth. For someone who is not able to walk, to walk again is wealth. To a person ridden with guilt from wrong doings, to be forgiven is wealth. Therefore, when Christ died for us in order for us to enjoy the richness of God’s abundance, it is more than just money we are talking about here. Having money is simply one aspect of prosperity.

How then do we not fret and worry about finances or if we are rich, how do we not worry about loosing our money? It is to know our source. Prosperity is being secure in our source. If we know that the source of our money comes from God, we are secured in the Lord, knowing He will provide. However, if we placed our source and trust in men, then when men failed us, we will fail, too. Only those who focus on God and know He is their source of salvation, they will not fret and worry. Instead, they will prosper. Do not focus on the lovely blueberry pie before you. Focus on the baker for he can give you another blueberry pie when someone ate your share.

When we focus on God, 2 Corinthians 9:8 says “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work”.

NKJ Version says “And God is able to make all grace toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work”. I would like you to take note of the words “all” that comes up many times; “all grace”, “all things”, “all times”, “all that you need”, “every good work” also “all good work”. God is able to give you all that you need at all times to do your good work. The NKJ Version mentions “always having all sufficiency”. It means we will never be in lack but always be supplied with more than enough in everything so that we can keep on giving to do lots of good works.

Our source of supply is God. Through the cross, we share in the riches of Christ. God promised in 2 Corinthians 9:10-11, that He will supply our seeds, increase our barn of storage of seeds, and we will be able to keep on giving and giving more each time. We can be generous in every way.

This is what 2 Corinthians 9:10-11 says “Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

God increases our store of seeds so that we can be generous. Just as it says so, the opposite can also be true. If you are not generous, it means your storage of seeds is little.

We always reap more than what we sow. This is the law of prosperity. Why do we reap more than what we sow? We don’t plant one seed to reap one seed but a whole tree of fruits and each fruit has more than one seed. If this is true in the physical term, what’s more in the spiritual realm?! God will never short change us if we are faithful to do what He instructed. We are make rich in every way so that we can be generous on every occasion, at all times and through our generosity, it will result in thanksgiving to God. This leads us to the last law. When we sow, we sow with purpose.

Christmastime doesn’t have to be harried and stressful. You can choose a few low-key traditions and enjoy the holiday even better than before. Christmas should be a happy time for you, your family and good friends.

An excellent idea is to plan events around the things you feel you want or need to do for the holidays. Most people choose to shop, decorate, make a meal, and some also bake. All these things can be simplified in a way that enhances your enjoyment. You might, for example, choose a day to do holiday baking with your best friend. Put on Christmas music while you bake and talk. Sharing work with others can make it fun. If it’s only you doing it, and it feels like work to you, don’t feel you need to do it. The world will not come tumbling down if you don’t make rum balls that everyone eats but no one will help you bake. If they want them, pull out the recipe for them and let them make it.

You can, if you like, make it a tradition that your whole family goes shopping on a certain day. Many people shop the day after Thanksgiving, then have a nice dinner and perhaps go to the movies. Mixing fun with work makes holiday chores feel better. All holiday tasks are made easier by making them the enjoyable part of your holiday celebrations, so rethink how you can do these things so that they are fun.

Choose a date for your holiday decorating. If it can’t be done in a day, it may be too much. Don’t do it alone; make it a family event or invite friends. For many, the day to decorate is the day after Thanksgiving.

Ask yourself, if you were to choose only three ways to decorate, what would they be? I would suggest one of those things be something you find welcoming as you come home. This may be holiday lights. How might you use one or two strings of lights or one item to make you feel really good coming home? This is how you simplify your decorating. Find the things you notice most, a focus in on those.
